Joint Pain
Our osteopaths at WOC treat many common injuries to joints of the whole body. The holistic nature of osteopathic treatment means we also assess and treat imbalance in overall biomechanics and tension in surrounding tissues, which are likely to be contributing to your symptoms.
Some common joint injuries we treat are:
- Ankle: acute sprains, strains or tears; chronic pain due to arthritis; Achilles tendinitis; Severs Disease, Plantar Fasciitis
- Knee: acute sprains strains or tears; chronic pain due to arthritis; Bursitis, or swelling of the knee; Patellar tracking dysfunction; Post operative management following ACL surgery (often in conjunction with a physiotherapist), or following arthroscopic surgery; Osgood Schlatters
- Hip: Bursitis, sacroiliac joint sprain, chronic pain due to arthritis, hip capsule tears (management may be in conjunction with a specialist and/or physiotherapist), nerve impingement, sciatica
- Shoulder: rotator cuff tears – either acute or degenerative, rotator cuff tendinitis, bursitis, frozen shoulder, chronic pain due to arthritis, AC joint sprains, post fracture management of the clavicle, management of recurrent shoulder dislocation or subluxation
- Elbow: tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), golfers elbow (medial epicondylitis), post fracture management of the radial head, compartment syndrome of the forearm
- Wrist: chronic pain due to arthritis, management following FOOSH injury (fall on outstretched hand), post operative management of scaphoid fracture
It is important to recognise however, that at times joint pain does not easily fall into a category, and it is the job of your practitioner to determine how and why your symptoms have come about. Modern technology gives us the opportunity to easily research pain which presents similar to our own, but each individual is unique, and each body tells a different story. Our osteopaths have specialist skills to assess your body as it functions, and can best determine why your pain is occurring and how to prevent it from happening again.
